Phase III of the City’s Emergency Water Conservation Plan Ordinance

Posted on 05/28/22

In an effort to mitigate the impacts of the drought in Southern California, this week the City Council voted unanimously to implement Phase III of the City’s Emergency Water Conservation Plan Ordinance. This crucial step will allow us to move forward in increasing our local water supply.

Starting Monday, June 1, 2022, LADWP customers will need to reduce outdoor watering to a maximum of two days per week, with watering permitted at the odd-numbered street addresses on Mondays and Fridays, and at even-numbered addresses on Thursdays and Saturdays. In addition, LADWP strongly recommends use of pool coverings to decrease evaporation and encourages washing of vehicles at car wash facilities.

Below are some tips on ways to save water.

Indoor Conservation Tips

  • Fix leaks, including leaky toilets
  • Install high-efficiency toilets, aerators on bathroom faucets, and water-efficient shower heads
  • Take shorter (5 minute or less) showers
  • Track your water bill and meter to curtail water use
  • Turn off the water when brushing teeth or shaving
  • Use dishwashers and washing machines with full loads only

Outdoor Conservation Tips

  • Plant drought-tolerant/resistant plants and trees
  • Recycle indoor water to use on plants
  • Refrain from watering your home landscape when it rains
  • Replace your grass/turf with water-wise plants
  • Use a broom to clean driveways, patios, and sidewalks instead of water from a hose
