FOLLOWING ARE COUNCIL DISTRICT 7 UPDATES.  If you have questions, contact info is at the bottom.

  • Measure W funding: We have worked closely with the Bureau of Sanitation to submit two separate projects here in Sunland-Tujunga for Measure W funding, and will keep you updated if these projects are selected for funding
    • Oro Vista Avenue Urban Flow Management Project - the proposed project would include new 57-66 inch diameter reinforced concrete storm drain, 13 new catch basins, 12,000 sq ft of pervious concrete sidewalks, drywells, infiltration planters, and covers a drainage area of 226 acres - submitted for consideration in December and expect an answer on what projects chosen by June
    • Tujunga Canyon Blvd Green Streets Project - proposed project along Tujunga Canyon Blvd. and Commerce Avenue would include the installation of nearly 3000 sf of permeable concrete sidewalks, 3100 sf of bioswale island, 2500 sf of infiltration planters, 10 new street trees and 4 double drywell systems
  • Sunland Park:
    • Our active park here in Sunland-Tujunga is one of the parks chosen as a Universal Play park, which means all classes and sports leagues are being subsidized and will now be available for only a $10 registration fee, beginning in April
    • Sunland Park lighting upgrade - the contractor is beginning installation now so lighting will soon be much increased at the park, increasing security and visibility at night
  • Transportation:
    • We will be having two left-turn phasing signals installed in the next year along Foothill through the Vision Zero initiative - one at the Foothill/Apperson intersection is scheduled for installation in late 2020, and one at Foothill/Tujunga Canyon Blvd is scheduled for installation around April 2021
    • The Councilwoman submitted a resolution for the City Council to approve to request for the state to significantly increase their Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, a grant which provides overtime funding for traffic officers to do increased traffic enforcement: http://clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2020/20-0002-S21_reso_02-11-2020.pdf
  • Homelessness:
  • As our CD7 Bridge Home project, Sylmar Armory is being converted to an 85-bed women’s interim shelter, which will service homeless women across our district - construction is expected to be completed by April with the shelter anticipated to open a month later once staff is trained and shelter furnished - our outreach team will be maintaining a waitlist of 300 in order to ensure that beds are always full - to get our local homeless population connected with this new resource, please report any homeless through la-hop.org, so outreach workers can connect with them.
  • The Pacoima winter shelter is still open during these cold weather months - folks can also be connected to this resource through la-hop.org
  • We will be doing a groundbreaking this month for the new Summit View permanent supportive housing in Lake View Terrace, which will provide 49 units of housing for homeless veterans and their families
  • Public Safety/Emergency Preparedness:
    • The Councilwoman sponsored the translation of the entire CERT training and materials into the Armenian language. We are hosting the first-ever CERT training to be done entirely in Armenian later this month.
  • We are hosting our 3rd annual senior ball on Valentine’s Day - 350 seniors from across the district will come together for a free luncheon, dancing, and a resource fair.
  • We are hosting upcoming community visioning meetings throughout the district next month - the workshop for Sunland-Tujunga, Shadow Hills, La Tuna and Lake View Terrace will be held 3/26, from 6-8p, in the Sunland Park Senior Center.
Thank you, and see you all next month!
