NHF Annual Block Party and Community Cleanup

The Office of Community Beautification and Keep Los Angeles Beautiful are ramping up efforts to engage with community groups and empower residents to improve their neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles. On July 30th, the Community of NHF, a group started by the National Health Foundation, met with City officials and other agencies to discuss a recent assessment conducted by the organization on the conditions of their Pico-Union neighborhood. Created to collaborate on projects in this area, the Community of NHF supports the National Health Foundation’s mission to take action on the social determinants of health in under-served communities.

The group presented their findings and recommendations to Board of Public Works Commissioner Aura Garcia, the Office of Community Beautification, representatives from the Mayor’s Office and Councilmember Gil Cedillo’s Office, and SoCalGas. Some of the topics covered during the meeting included community cleanups, tree planting, and graffiti abatement. Additionally, community members were interested in educational campaigns on using MyLA311 to request graffiti removal, bulky item removal, and other services. This meeting represented the first step towards a collaborative effort to implement improvements and provide resources and information that will help the Pico-Union community to maintain a clean, green, and safe neighborhood.
 
The Office of Community Beautification is partnering with the National Health Foundation on its NHF Annual Block Party and Community Cleanup by providing graffiti removal services and supplying tools for the cleanup.
