As we did last Friday, we are happy to share a recap of the actions taken by the Bass Administration to address the homelessness crisis during Week Two.
  • On Tuesday, Mayor Bass provided testimony at the Board of Supervisors meeting in favor of Chair Hahn's motion to support the City's emergency declaration and better align County resources with the City's response. The Board of Supervisors voted to install a representative of the County CEO as a Deputy Director in the City's official command structure at the Emergency Operations Center. This deep partnership will dramatically accelerate and enhance our work to save lives at a true inflection point in Los Angeles.

  • On Tuesday evening, Mayor Bass attended the inauguration of Long Beach's new Mayor Rex Richardson, who declared a local emergency on homelessness in his city. The two Mayors are locking arms with states of emergency now declared in the county's two largest cities.

  • On Wednesday, Mayor Bass joined service providers to sign an executive directive officially launching Inside Safe and changing the City's encampment approach. Inside Safe is a citywide proactive housing-led strategy to bring people inside from tents and encampments for good, and to prevent encampments from returning. Inside Safe will assess street homelessness across Los Angeles and then proactively engage with people living in tents and encampments based on which locations are most chronic and where people are most in crisis. Click here for more information about Inside Safe.

  • On Thursday, Mayor Bass met with Lourdes Castro Ramírez, Secretary of California's Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency (BCSH), along with a delegation of key BCSH staff, because we will only solve homelessness by working together. The Mayor and State delegation were joined by leaders from the Mayor's Office, City Departments, Los Angeles County and LAHSA.
Wishing you happy holidays and looking forward to continued work together.
Respectfully,
Michelle Vergara, MSW

Senior Area Representative of Public Engagement
Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs
