Historic Verdugo Hills Cemetery
Next Open Day, for Visitation & Volunteering, tomorrow, September 17, 11am – 2pm
The Time Capsule Has Found its Time
The one aspect of the Grand Centennial Event, VHC100 on April 23rd of this year that didn’t come together as was intended was the Time Capsule. The former burial niches for cremated remains, now empty, were to be filled with donated items that spoke of these times. We will be having a short ceremony on October 30th at 6pm to finally encapsulate these items and honor those individuals whose ashes were once there. A plaque will be placed with instructions to open the Time Capsule after 25 years. If you have an item that you would like to have included, they can be dropped off at VHC on one of the next two visitation days or at Bolton Hall Museum during open hours each weekend. The event on October 30th will not be announced publicly, only to Friends of the Verdugo Hills Cemetery. Below are the measurements that the items must fit into.
- All nooks are 9.5" in depth
- All nooks are 9” in height
- All nooks are 11" in width
- There is one larger nook that is 47" in width
Following the Tan Brick Road
There are still many bricks that are yet to be installed into Loved Ones Landing. The recent heat really put progress in slow motion. I’m happy to report that the mausoleum is in good order, and the plants are hanging in there. I’ll be glad when the rain returns. (Let’s hope) There are no specific tasks planned for tomorrow but there is much that could be done to keep things in order. Please come for a visit or to lend a hand. All are welcome!
Thank you for your time, and see you at the cemetery
