Deadline for Property Tax Deferment Program Feb. 10
LOS ANGELES, CA Assessor Jeff Prang is helping both the State Controller as well as the Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector in alerting eligible homeowners to an important fast-approaching deadline regarding a state-run property tax deferment program.

The State Controller's Office administers California's Property Tax Postponement Program that has a deadline for applications of Feb. 10, 2021. Eligible homeowners, which include seniors, who are at least 62, are blind, or have a disability and meet income, equity, and other requirements, may be able to postpone payment of property taxes on their primary residence. It's important to file an application by February 10, 2021.

This is a courtesy message on behalf of both the State Controller and the Los Angeles Treasurer and Tax Collector, contacting the Los Angeles County Office of the Assessor may delay the application process. (See below)

The State Controller's Office (SCO), which administers California’s Property Tax Postponement (PTP) Program, is reminding the public that the deadline to apply for property tax deferment for the 2020-2021 tax year is February 10, 2021, and applications will be processed in the order received.  The PTP Program allows homeowners who are seniors (at least 62 years of age), are blind, or have a disability and who meet income, equity, and other requirements, to postpone payment of property taxes on their primary residence.  As of last year, manufactured homes are also eligible for property tax postponement.

Only current-year property taxes are eligible for deferment of payment.  Participants must reapply each year and demonstrate they continue to meet eligibility requirements.

More details are available on the SCO’s website at https://sco.ca.gov/ardtax_prop_tax_postponement.html

If you have any questions, please contact the SCO at [email protected] or (800) 952-5661.
