Councilmember Monica Rodriguez presented a motion at City Council on September 11, 2019 to name the intersection at Commerce and Valmont  "William Saroyan Square" with a "Permanent Ceremonial Sign".  Councilman Paul Krekorian seconded the motion.*

No public community meetings were held regarding naming of the intersection at Commerce and Valmont.  The STNC Land Use Committee recommended a CIS at their special joint board meeting on Monday, Oct. 7 followed by a Special Meeting of the STNC Board that same night. The board lacked quorum to complete the vote and carried it on to their Oct. 9 board meeting.

But, the vote by City Council was heard on Tuesday, Oct. 8th. at 10:00 a.m. at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street.  The vote was taken before the meeting even began and no public comment on Item #59 was taken.  Later Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez said the unveiling would take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 and invited her fellow councilmembers to attend.

The STNC encourages public participation on all issues of concern to the community.
