Recycled Water Updates

Hello RWAG Participants and Observers,
 
We are pleased to share positive stories regarding Recycled Water with you.
 
1.    On Friday, September 4th, the following article was published on the website www.scpr.org, “Burbank offering free recycled water to residents”.  http://www.scpr.org/news/2015/09/04/54217/drought-burbank-offering-free-recycled-water-to-re/
 
In the article, Joe Flores from Burbank Water and Power shares one of the main reasons for the program, “A lot of our residential customers asked if some of that recycled water could be made available to them.”
 
2.    On Tuesday, September 22nd, the following article was published by the Los Angeles Times, “Metropolitan Water District aims to build plant to recycle sewage into drinking water”. http://www.latimes.com/science/la-me-mwd-recycled-water-20150923-story.html
 
The article included the following quote from Mark Gold, Associate Vice Chancellor for Environment and Sustainability at UCLA, “This is the new reality of water in California.  If anything, this drought has demonstrated that you’d better have a diversified water portfolio or you’re not going to survive very well.”  The article also included the following quote from Robert Ferrante, Assistant Chief Engineer at the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, “This is a great new source of water for Southern California.  But you can’t put all your eggs in one basket, there’s no one answer to sustainability.  It’s not just desalination, it’s not just conservation, it’s not just recycling and it’s not just turf removal.  It’s a combination of all those things.”
